Child safety wins in new £5,000 sponsorship deal

Health and Safety and CDM Advisors MSP Business Services in Bournemouth is the latest business to support Dorset Skills for Life charity SafeWise with a sponsorship package worth £5,000.

The sponsorship will help ensure that thousands of school children and families remain safe and sound when visiting SafeWise learning villages in Bournemouth and Weymouth.

As part of the arrangement MSP carried out a full inspection of SafeWise’s facilities – presenting an unusual challenge for Managing Director Malcolm Pitcher, who possesses 30 years experience in the industry.

Malcolm said: “We work with companies of all types and sizes across the country but this has got to be our most unusual task to date, and a big responsibility too, because if anywhere needs to be safe for children to visit, then it’s SafeWise.

“SafeWise learning villages are intentionally set up with what appears to be risky scenarios for visitors to recognise and tackle – for example, smoke alarms without batteries, lawn mower plugs in ponds, beaches without lifesaving equipment, roadworks, and a house jam-packed full of potential hazards.

“It was quite a challenge to identify and make sure the things which appeared unsafe were actually fine, whilst also checking that the rest of the learning village and facilities were fit for purpose too.”

MSP Business Services, based at Drewett House, Ringwood Road, Bournemouth – was started by Malcolm Pitcher in 2010, and now provides Health & Safety, CDM and HR advisory services and training to companies country-wide.

Explaining why he sponsored SafeWise, Malcolm continued: “I’m a local lad from Bournemouth and my children, like many others, visited SafeWise with their schools. As a local business I genuinely believe it is our duty to put something back into the community.”

SafeWise learning centres deliver interactive and practical skills for life education in full size streetscapes and settings, tackling road, fire, water and home safety, alongside dealing with emergencies, healthy living, citizenship, financial skills and much more.

Chief Executive Rob Hattersley said: “I would like to thank MSP for their valuable backing. Sponsorship, support and services from local companies like MSP is the life-blood of SafeWise. It allows us to deliver valuable skills for life education and helps us keep children and others safe in our community.

“Malcolm and the Team at MSP have developed an excellent working relationship with our team, and I’m delighted that they are on board to help keep our people and visitors safe and ensure we meet all the various legal guidelines and requirements for health and safety compliance.”
