‘Development Dave’ training for 55-mile London-Brighton bike ride

KFA’s Development Manager, Dave Spencer is in training for the London-Brighton cycle ride this September.

Dave has seen first hand what dementia can do to a family as his Mum has been affected by mixed dementia for many years now.

What began as mild confusion has now degenerated into a full-on lack of cognisance of anything in her life. She no longer knows who any of her family is, and spends her days sitting, just wasting away.

This first-hand experience has encouraged Dave to do something about it. He has decided to take part in the London – Brighton cycle ride on the 13th September 2020, to fundraise for the Alzheimer’s Society who are striving to create a world without dementia.

The Alzheimer’s Society’s research programme focuses on improving care for people with dementia today and finding a cure for tomorrow.

“Before dementia came knocking Mum was very creative. She was an excellent seamstress (she made my sister’s wedding dress many years ago – no mean feat for anyone). She was a painter, a writer and achieved an open university degree.  In her youth, a singer and dancer, and a hard-working Mum to me and my sister, and much loved by her 5 grandchildren.”
“Dementia does not just affect the individual – but it robs everyone involved of a life. It is a cruel and nasty disease, and it needs to end NOW!”

Anything that Dave’s supporters can donate to help will be greatly appreciated and it will also help motivate Dave to complete the 55-mile challenge that awaits him!
