Dorset Manufacturing Company Embarks On A Summer Of Challenges For Julia’s House

Superior, a leading manufacturer based in Dorset, is supporting Julia’s House with a range of fundraising activities this summer:

  • Tough Mudder – Saturday August 18
  • Dorset Plane Pull – Monday August 27
  • Rotary Dorset Bike Ride – Sunday September 9

Superior is entering two teams of 10 in the South West Tough Mudder challenge on Saturday August 18. The gruelling 10-mile course consists of over 20 obstacles, taking participants through a combination of large grassy Gloucestershire hills, dense dark forests and quicksand-like mud.

Heather Marchment, supply chain manager at Superior and organising the Tough Mudder team, commented: “Tough Mudder is a great team challenge, I’m really excited to see everyone pull together and raise money for such a brilliant cause.”

Following this, the company will be entering a team into the tenth annual Dorset Plane Pull which takes place at Bournemouth Airport on Monday August 27. Superior’s team of 20 will be challenged to pull a massive 35,000kg Boeing 737 for a distance of 50 meters in the fastest time.

Sue Byrne, quality systems manager at Superior and organising the Plane Pull team, commented: “It’s a big challenge but we’re pleased to be taking part for Julia’s House that needs as much help as possible to fund their amazing work.”

The Superior cycling team will also be tackling the 108-mile Etape Rotary Dorset Bike Ride on Sunday September 9. This challenging route has a total climb of 7178ft and a maximum elevation of 891ft.

Superior employees from all departments and sites are taking part in the activities, including several apprentices from the Academy. All activities are to raise funds for Julia’s House, the Dorset and Wiltshire children’s hospice charity which supports life-limited children and their families.

In addition to the company-wide fundraising activities, the head of Superior’s apprenticeship academy, Katie Bodman, has completed a 3-day Trek through the Alps from Thursday July 12 to Sunday July 15 for Julia’s House.

Katie commented: “The epic adventure saw a group of 28 keen fundraisers ascend over 2,500m across three countries. It was a gruelling but unforgettable experience, with an amazing group of people.

“As a team we have managed to raise over £43,000 for Julia’s House. I’m so grateful to everyone that has sponsored and supported me.”

Fundraiser Sue Miles of Julia’s House, commented: “The support we’ve had from Superior has been brilliant – they are extremely active in their fundraising! In taking on these challenges, they are helping fund breaks for families facing tough challenges every single day. Well done to everyone but especially Katie for successfully completing the Alps Trek in such style.”
