Fun Fundraisers to support Local Children’s Charity

The Dorset Children’s Foundation have been massively affected by the Corona Virus with their Charity Shops shut and fundraising events cancelled. They receive no funding from the Government and rely on sales and donations.

Despite this they have been continuing to support their families during this difficult time with food, medicine and arts and crafts deliveries and Easter Eggs thrown in.

The community are stepping in to give back to the charity with some incredible fundraisers which have not only raised money but given some great fun at home during lockdown, all shared on Social Media.

Ingenious supporters of the charity have included challenges such as: head shaves, hair dyes, puppy training and blind folded food eating to name a few!

Laura Mann dyed her hair pink and raised almost £300 to show her support for the charity who have supported her disabled daughter Cerys who needed a life changing operation to enable her to walk. Cerys would have been a full-time wheelchair user without it.

The brothers and Dad of Kitty another child supported by The DCF all shaved their heads live on Facebook. They set a target to raise £100 and beat it 10 times over!

The Dorset Children’s Foundation has provided Dermott’s little sister Delilah with a much-needed wheelchair to give her the freedom of movement and independence.

Dermott decided to have his head-shaved to help raise funds. His Mum Natalie said: ‘The DCF have also gone above and beyond in supporting our family and creating many fun and accessible activities that are inclusive to all, which are sadly currently cancelled. This is a very important charity to us and even in these hard times they are still taking care of families. I’m so proud of Dermott for wanting to help’

The Charity’s Co-Founder Patsy Hallmey said: ‘Its been fantastic to see so many lovely people come forward and help us raise funds in a variety of ways and everyone’s enjoyed seeing them on Facebook. We are really touched by this and every penny will go to support a local sick or disabled child.’

Frankie who turned 7 last week has Cerebral Palsy and has recently been diagnosed with Epilepsy. Thanks to our wonderful families who shaved their heads and dyed their hair we can immediately respond to this and buy Frankie a life saving Epilepsy Monitor.
