Hope for Food has been selected as Trethowans’ charity of the year in Bournemouth and Poole.
Hope for Food aims to help men, women and children in Bournemouth and the surrounding areas, who are either homeless or living in poverty, by providing fresh food at their soup kitchens and hampers of food, good quality clothing, bedding and household goods, where needed.
Trethowans hopes to donate items to the charity throughout the year, as well as raising thousands of pounds for the cause.
Chris Whiteley, managing partner at Trethowans, says: “Sadly, homelessness and poverty remains a big issue in the area and far too many people rely on support from Hope for Food just to get by. We hope that by fundraising for the charity we’ll be able to help some of the most vulnerable people in our community.”
Hope for Food could well get a significant boost as a result of being the charity of the year. The firm’s Poole team donated £3,774 for Julia’s House last year as its previous nominated cause and the Bournemouth office raised £3,600.89 for local cause, Wooden Spoon.
Mary Duncan, Secretary at Hope for Food, said: “The Trustees at Hope for Food are extremely grateful for this support from Trethowans. We are an entirely volunteer run charity and receive no funding from either local or national government agencies. The work we do and the support we give to the homeless and families in poverty is provided purely through donations. At present we run five soup kitchens per week catering for about 80 each time and provide food parcels for up to 90 families referred to us through schools and agencies such as social services. Without the generous support of businesses like Trethowans we would not be able to help people in the way we do.”
