Lighthouse launches Big Christmas Appeal

Just a week after it launched, this year’s Lighthouse Big Christmas Appeal had already reached a third of its target.

The Appeal aims to raise £10,000 to give thousands of local people their first experience of live theatre.

“The enthusiasm and generosity of our supporters is amazing,” says Lighthouse fundraising manager Tom Shallaker. “Thanks to them the Appeal is off an even better start than we could ever have dreamed of – already scores of people will be able to enjoy life-enriching opportunities at Lighthouse.”

Over the last 12 months Lighthouse has given more than 15,000 free or discounted tickets to children, families and people who experience disadvantage and the Big Christmas Appeal will enable it to do even more next year.

“We’ve had school groups from as far as Portland come to see shows – 82 per cent of students from one school had never experienced live theatre before. We’ve also been able to subsidise ticket prices at relaxed performances and many other events.”

  • If everyone who comes to see Poole’s family pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk gave just £1 the target would be reached before the end of the run.
  • Just £12.50 pays for a free or discounted ticket.
  • A donation of £50 will help pay for a family of four to come to the theatre together.
  • Elderly people who may be lonely and isolated are able to have a day out and socialise with others at a show.
  • Mums living in a refuge can have some quality family time with their children in the theatre.

The Big Christmas Appeal runs until the end of this year’s family pantomime run, Sunday 5 January.
