Mayor Welcomes New Service From Yellow Buses

A new bus service linking Bournemouth, Christchurch, Highcliffe and New Milton has been described as “fantastic news” by the Mayor of Christchurch.

Cllr Lesley Dedman joined traders to welcome Yellow Buses’ extended 1a service which runs on an hourly basis from Monday to Saturday.

Initial passenger numbers for the service, which officially began on April 8, have already exceeded expectations, according to Yellow Buses.

Cllr Dedman said: “Everyone I speak to is thrilled by this new service. It’s fantastic news and likely to be very popular.”

Gareth Bowden, President of Christchurch Chamber of Trade and Commerce, added: “Our members are very pleased with this new service which will bring the attractions of Christchurch and Highcliffe to an even greater number of people.”

Highcliffe Action Team (HAT) has also welcomed the 1a’s arrival.

Jane Dean, Communications Officer, said: “Highcliffe has so much to offer, from our stunning beach to historic castle.

“We have over 120 trades on our high street, including cafes, tea rooms, beauty, clothing and an award-winning butcher and baker. We welcome Yellow Buses into our village.”

Simon Newport, Yellow Buses’ Head of Commercial, said: “We’ve been quite overwhelmed by the positive reaction to the extended 1a service, particularly from people living in the Highcliffe and New Milton area. It augurs well for the future.”
