Music Teaching Enhanced By Purchase Of New Computer Tablets

Pupils at Hillbourne Primary School in Poole are having great fun and learning new musical skills thanks to the purchase of new computer tablets.

Sophie Howell, Music Coordinator commented.

“The new tablets have been fantastic tools in my Music teaching. Children in Year 3 have been creating musical compositions, which I have recorded as videos. The children have then watched the videos whilst evaluating their work and using this to improve their original pieces. In Music Club, we have also been exploring some fun new educational Music apps, including a DJ app. Taking good quality pictures of the school choir performing has been another invaluable aspect of the tablets, plus downloading backing tracks to use with a blue tooth speaker when we sing at a local care home. It is fantastic to be able to bring Music teaching into the twenty-first century!”

The choir at the school include amongst their programme of events, performing at the Lighthouse at Christmas, singing at a home with elderly residents and performing in the end of term concerts.

They include children from different year groups which helps provide a good mix of talents.

J.P. Morgan made the donation and Sarah Maher and Serena Sheldrake from the J.P. Morgan Community Relations Committee went along to the school to see the tablets in action.

“There was real enthusiasm within the group and it was great to see the computer tablets in use,” says Sarah, who was a former pupil at Hillbourne. “We were delighted to be able to help in this way.”

(J.P. Morgan employs 4,000 people at its technology and operations centre in Bournemouth and has a strong history of community engagement).
