New Play Equipment to Benefit Children

Thanks to funds from the John Lewis Charity Committee, the Children’s Team at Diverse Abilities were able to purchase a new hidey hut and sensory wall panel for children supported by the local disability charity.

Both will provide great benefits to the children and Clare Rochford, children’s team manager, said: “I can’t thank John Lewis enough; the children with sensory issues will benefit greatly from both the hidey hut and sensory wall.

“They will give an area for quiet and calm, providing an ideal atmosphere and setting for children who are feeling overwhelmed to regulate emotions. The sensory wall panel will give the children an opportunity to explore their surroundings using the tactile panel, and equally children who are tactile defensive and do not like the feeling of certain objects can use the panel to build up their confidence over time and get used to the sensation of touching certain textures.”

The Diverse Abilities’ Children’s Team provides a range of services for children and young people from birth, including play sessions during the school holidays and weekends, a respite home, care in their home, a weekly youth club, support to access the community and provide advice/signposting.
