Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital is celebrating 60 years of business

Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital was the first private hospital set up by the Trust in 1957 and is now celebrating its 60th anniversary.

Nuffield Health now operates 31 hospitals nationwide and is recognised as the UK’s largest not-for-profit healthcare provider. The hospital located on Lansdowne Road, Bournemouth was originally a nursing home purchased by a group of local GPs. When the nursing home was under threat the owners received financial support from local business owners and so Nuffield Nursing Homes Trust was born, before the name was later changed in 1983 to Nuffield Hospital.

Now 60 years on, Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital comprises five buildings and more than 220 staff members.  In recent years the hospital has added a string of state-of-the-art facilities, including the Fertility Clinic, Cardiac Catheter Lab and the Post Procedural Care Unit (PPC unit).

The Cardiac Catheter Lab was the first private cardiology facility in Dorset when it opened in 2015, and uses top-of-the-range cardiac technology, equipment and treatments. As well as staffing leading consultants who provide world-class healthcare to local residents, Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital also takes great pride in customer care. The recently opened PPC Unit is a private facility where patients can receive one-to-one support to aid their recovery from procedures performed at the hospital and is a service not offered in any other local hospital.

To join the extensive range of facilities and services, Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital is also one of the first private hospitals in the UK, and also in Europe, to invest in Mako robotic technology which supports leading consultants Professor Rob Middleton and Mr Paul Pavlou in performing hip and knee replacements.

David McNair, Hospital Director at Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating our 60th anniversary at Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital. Although this is a prominent time to reflect on how far we’ve come since 1957, it’s also a time to look to the future, and the advancements in medicine. We are proud to be one of the only hospitals in the UK to offer robotic technology and will continue to research and invest in technology that will provide a more efficient treatment to our patients.”
