Pulling power

The Westover Group, part of the UK’s largest network of motor dealerships, is celebrating after three brands represented by the group in Dorset and Wiltshire gained award recognition in the annual Tow Car Awards, the UK’s biggest tow car test programme.

Awards were decided by experts from the Camping and Caravanning Club, WhatCar? and Practical Caravan who put hundreds of cars to the test to find the best that can tow a caravan or trailer.  With towing one of the toughest jobs a car will have to do, cars were put through tests to reflect these demands.  The judges assessed the cars against four criteria: towing, everyday driving, practicality and the ease of both buying and owning.

Land Rover, Dacia and Skoda, all represented by the Westover Group, received acknowledgement in the 2019 awards, with Land Rover ‘towing away’ two.

The Land Rover Discovery 3.0 Sd6 306hp HSE won Best 1,900KG+ Tow Car Award due to its outstanding ability to ow long distances in all weathers with ease and style.  The Range Rover Sport P400e HSE Dynamic won Best Plug-in Hybrid Tow Car due to its exceptional fuel economy and emission figures.  It was also quick, towing a caravan from 30 to 60 mph in 8.6 seconds to make it one of the fastest accelerating tow cars tested for these awards.

With its price starting at £9,995, the Dacia Duster Comfort Blue dCi 115 4×4 was recognised with the Best Budget 4×4 award and the Skoda Octavia 1.5 TSI 150PS SE L DSG won the Up to 1400KG Tow Car Award, making it a petrol car acknowledged in the lightest weight class.

Louis Elder from Westover Land Rover Christchurch says: “Seeing some of the brands that we represent in Dorset and Wiltshire win accolades for their abilities is satisfying. Land Rover, Dacia and Skoda all offer an ideal vehicle to those who want to tow caravans or trailers.   It’s a privilege for us to represent some of the best tow cars on sale today.”
