Sexual Trauma and Recovery Services (STARS Dorset) to open new centre in West Dorset
Due to the increasing demand for its services Sexual Trauma and Recovery Services (STARS Dorset) is to extend and open a new centre in West Dorset. The charity currently has its main offices in Poole and the new centre will mean its services will be more accessible to clients in the west of the county.
STARS Dorset is a free service for anyone of any age or gender who lives, works or studies in Dorset and has experienced any form of sexual violence at any time in their life. The charity offers four core services: a one to one Counselling service, a Helpline, an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor Service and a service specifically for Children and Young People.
Helen Stevens, STARS Service Manager said “The need for the work STARS Dorset does is continually growing, last year we helped over 1000 people in the county. Although we currently work with clients in West Dorset having a dedicated centre in the area will mean our services will become more accessible to the local community which is vital.”
Martyn Underhill, Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner added ‘“The dedicated staff and volunteers at STARS Dorset provide incredible emotional and practical support to people who have been through some of the worst experiences possible. While it is incredibly sad that their services are so badly needed, I am proud to see STARS arrive in rural Dorset. This extra footprint of services will make them more accessible, and increase reporting as well as support outside of the conurbation.”
