Successful service leads to busy buses

Yellow Buses has doubled the number of buses going to New Milton after the route extension proved such a hit.

The 1a service now goes from Bournemouth town centre every half an hour between Monday and Friday.

It stops at Christchurch, Somerford Sainsbury’s, Highcliffe, New Milton and the Tesco in New Milton.

Since the service began in May it has carried nearly 40,000 passengers and the numbers have continued to increase.

The company, which was bought out by its management from the French owners in July, was welcomed to the town by mayor Alvin Reid.

He said: “New Milton is delighted to welcome new shoppers, workers and visitors by the bus-load.

“And we very much value the closer connection we now have with our neighbours in Christchurch and Bournemouth.

“A big thank you has to go to the great team at Yellow Buses for recognising the opportunity in New Milton.

“As a town council, we are working to improve health and wellbeing and this service is another opportunity for people to leave their cars at home.

“It is brilliant that the service has already been used by nearly 40,000 people since its recent launch.”

Simon Newport, Yellow Buses commercial director, said: “Our extension to New Milton has been a huge success and we have attracted many new passengers.

“Those who use the service particularly enjoy the ability to get to supermarkets and also to have days out in towns other than their own.

“We will continue to listen to our passengers to hear what they want and whether we can provide it.”

Suna King, New Milton’s Town Development Manager, said: “We have a huge variety of independent traders in the town centre, wide tree-lined pavements, gorgeous flower displays and a host of cafés.

“So now having a half-hourly Yellow Bus is just fantastic news for traders and shoppers.”
