Trekking the Sahara

Two Dorset trekkers will soon be donning their walking boots and heading to the Sahara, to take part in the adventure of a lifetime.

Alice Smee, Network Coordinator of the Hoburne Group, and Alex Hill, Director of Meyers Estate Agents Poole have set themselves the challenge to raise money for Dorset’s disability charity Diverse Abilities.

Trekking 100 kilometres, the five-day trek passes through Morocco’s landscape taking in peaks, gorges, dunes and oases. Highlights include a summit of Jebel Lamrakeb, where trekkers can take in views of the region.

Director of Meyers Estate Agents Poole, Alex Hill, said:

“It’s felt like it was ages away but suddenly its coming around very quickly. It seems a bit unreal but also very exciting. It’s something that I know I will look back on for many years to come and I am looking forward to making some new friends on the trip. I have been amazed by the support that the public, family and friends have given with their contributions. I know that the money will be well spent and go to help some very deserving people.”

Alice, who is setting herself a challenge to mark her 60th birthday, commented: “Now that we have just four weeks to go, I am getting very excited about the Sahara trek. Throughout the festive break, I remained focused on my daily training routine, and it was worthwhile as I feel completely ready both mentally and physically to take on this incredible adventure. I have received so much support from everyone donating to Diverse Abilities, and it is very humbling to realise so many people want to support both me and such a worthy charity.”

The trek will take place in February 2020.
