Trethowans turned back the clock to the golden age of cinema this week as it joined Bournemouth Pavilion for its 90th anniversary celebrations.
Staff from the award-winning law firm, which is an official partner of Bournemouth Pavilion, joined the Mayor of Bournemouth and other guests as the venue held a special screening of 42nd Street to mark its 90th anniversary.
Bournemouth Pavilion, a Grade II listed venue, opened on Tuesday 19 March 1929. Throughout March it is holding a series of events to celebrate nine decades of entertainment and Tuesday’s screening of 42nd Street saw guests from across Dorset transported back in time to view the iconic film in black and white.

Trethowans is an official partner of Bournemouth Pavilion and its branding sits pride of place inside the 1500-seat theatre. The partnership supports the theatre’s development programme, which includes ongoing refurbishment projects, improvements and community initiatives.
The screening of 42nd Street formed one of many celebrations to mark the venue’s 90th anniversary. The hit blockbuster film was shown in black and white and the special screening also included a nostalgic recreation of the ‘Pavilion Municipal Orchestra’, which played a selection of music from the 1930s. In addition, the Compton Organ was played by star organist, Donald MacKenzie, Britain’s last full-time resident Cinema Organist from London’s Leicester Square Odeon.

Bournemouth Pavilion, a Grade II listed venue, opened on Tuesday 19 March 1929. It has a 1,500-seat theatre and full-sized ballroom. It hosts musicals, opera, ballet, pantomime, comedy, gala dinners, banquets, receptions, fairs, dances and fashion shows throughout the year.
