Vegan Cooking Demo and Repair Café at Dolphin Shopping Centre’s Eco Hub

The Dolphin Shopping Centre in Poole has a varied and exciting schedule of free events coming up in its Eco Hub for members of the public.

On Thursday June 21, a Vegan Cooking Demo will take place with nutritionist Emi Looker. Emi will be located in the centre’s Eco Hub from 12-2pm giving members of the public free demonstrations on creating healthy raw dishes, inspired by Mediterranean cuisine using fresh, local and in-season organic produce.

The Vegan Cooking Demo will offer suggestions on how to choose in-season foods that reduce unnecessary packaging and support local businesses. All recipes will be vegan, sugar free and gluten free.

Emi Looker, nutritionist and founder of Native Nutrition, commented: “I’m passionate about encouraging others to eat healthily and follow a more sustainable lifestyle. Cooking with natural food means a healthier body and a healthier planet.

“I’m very much looking forward to the Eco Hub demonstration and will be able to provide you with recipe ideas to take home as well.”

On Saturday June 23, a Repair Café will take place with group leader Jennie Allen, in the shopping centre’s Eco Hub from 11am-3pm. Repair Café is an international movement which operates through local projects with the objective being to divert would-be waste from landfill. There will also be reading material available about sustainability in the local area.

Jennie Allen, leader of Bournemouth Repair Café, commented: “Bring your broken belongings along and one of our fixer volunteers might know just how to breathe new life into them. Is your toaster playing up? Has your favourite jacket got a split seam or lost a few buttons? Nobody wants to throw away their useful and beloved items – and we don’t want you to either!

“Our aim is to save money and help the environment by reducing landfill. We also hope this pop-up event will encourage Poole residents to share their skills, tools and ideas.”

John Grinnell, centre manager at the Dolphin Shopping Centre commented: “We’re pleased to be welcoming both Emi and Jennie to the Eco Hub for these activities. Our Eco Hub is all about supporting community projects that encourage sustainability.”

The Eco Hub launched earlier this year as part of the Dolphin’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and is located in the lower mall of the centre. It is open during the centre’s regular opening hours and is free to use. Email info@dolphinshoppingcentre.co.uk with any booking enquiries.

John added: “The Eco Hub is a great opportunity for people to use the dedicated in-centre space for workshops and exhibitions. We encourage other project leaders to get in touch with us to find out more about using the free community space.”
