Yellows pull out ahead of the rest

Yellow Buses has triumphed at the prestigious Dorset Tourism Awards by winning the ‘innovation’ category.

The Bournemouth-based operator took the ‘gold’ award ahead of second-placed Christmas Tree Wonderland festival – a project it was also involved with.

Yellows’ managing director David Squire, who led a management buyout of the company from its French owners in July, said it was a team effort.

Judges were particularly impressed by the tech innovation across the Yellows’ fleet that includes wi-fi, USB charging points and contactless payment.

The revamped town centre Travel Shop that enables passengers to search for places to visit and learn how to get there, and has screens showing where buses are in real time, also played a major part in the win.

The improved network, newly branded routes and re-introduction of the Open Toppers were further elements that made an impression on the judging panel.

David Squire said: “It was tremendous to win and it is down to a huge effort from all out staff.

“We have an extremely dedicated team who are committed to making a positive difference to our passengers, whether they travel with us regularly or when they are here on holiday.

“Investment has been key to our improved services and although we are more than a century old innovation is key to our future.”
