Dolphin Shopping Centre 2019 charity

The Dolphin Shopping Centre team are continuing their fundraising efforts for another year by nominating the charity Diverse Abilities to support in 2019.

Diverse Abilities is Dorset’s disability charity supporting children and adults with profound physical and learning disabilities across the county.

John Grinnell, centre manager at the Dolphin Shopping Centre, said: “We’re very excited to have partnered with Diverse Abilities and have some great events and fundraising activities lined up already.

“We relish any opportunity to give back to the community and chose to support Diverse Abilities because of the synergy with our continued focus on making the centre as autism-friendly and wheelchair-friendly as possible. The charity does amazing work locally and we wanted to use our position to help raise the profile of the charity amongst our customers.”

Earlier this year, the Dolphin revealed new public toilets in the main mall, with touch-free technology and Changing Places facilities. These new facilities include a ceiling track hoist, a height-adjustable, adult-sized changing bench and improved wheelchair accessibility.

The Dolphin management team has also confirmed its interest in supporting a charity skydive in March and a wing walk in June. John added: “I’ll be encouraging team members to take part in a variety of challenging activities – some of my team are terrified already!”

Diverse Abilities’ Gala Ball in November 2019 will be sponsored by the Dolphin Shopping Centre. The popular event will take place at Poole’s Lighthouse, with ‘A Starry Night’ theme.

As the centre’s nominated charity for 2019, Diverse Abilities will be given the opportunity to have a permanent display in the Eco Hub and the opportunity for bucket collections on the acquisition stand in the centre.

Mark Powell, CEO of Diverse Abilities, said: “We are very grateful to the Dolphin Shopping Centre for nominating us to be the chosen charity for 2019. It is very important to raise awareness for the work we do in supporting Dorset’s children and adults with disabilities.

“We really appreciate all the support we receive from local businesses and the Dorset community, and we very much look forward to partnering with the Dolphin Shopping Centre over the year ahead.”

In 2018, the Dolphin Shopping Centre supported MARINELife and Chestnut Nursery as its nominated charities.
