Football for cancer – Bournemouth – benefits from donation

A donation of £1,450 went towards helping to establish the Bournemouth arm of the Charity, Football for Cancer, and a number of items to help raise the profile of a major event. The total of money raised so far stands at the magnificent sum of just over £21,500.

“The charity was started 11 years ago in Portsmouth and we were able to establish a Bournemouth arm of the charity in 2018, building on it this year,” says Faye Millington, Head of the Bournemouth Committee. “The teams taking part in the event at Hamworthy United Football Club all represent someone who has passed away from Cancer or who was special to the Charity.”

Money raised by the charity is able to go direct to the families concerned. A Specialists Panel are able to decided who is eligible to receive a grant and the money can then be released the same day.

J.P. Morgan was the local firm who made the donation employing 4,000 people at its technology and operations centre in Bournemouth and has a strong history of community engagement.

“It was the donation that really helped to make the difference and it gave us some real momentum to help with all the organisation and publicity,” added Faye.
