Visa Extensions and COVID-19.

What’s happening?

  1. The government has announced provisions to make it easier for people to extend their visa if it expires between 24 January 2020 and 31 May 2020. This is in response to the fact that leaving the country may be impossible due to the travel restrictions or the need to self-isolate because of COVID-19.
  2. Appointments with Sopra Steria to give biometrics and scan documents for in-country applications are being suspended.

Why is this important?

Remaining in the UK without a visa is unlawful.

What should you do?

If you or any of your employees are aware that their UK visa will expire in the next 3 months you should take advice as soon as possible. If there are grounds for extending a visa, a valid application must be submitted before the personal deadline. It will not be automatically extended.

We can’t emphasis enough that doing nothing is not an option.
