On Friday 24th November, three and four year olds from Tops Day Nurseries in Gillingham were preparing for an exciting Tops Forest School session with a very special guest… Mayor Cllr Belinda Ridout.
The children led the mayor through the local woodland area to demonstrate the skills they had developed at previous Tops Forest School sessions, including one of the children’s favourite activities, den building.
Mayor Cllr Belinda Ridout said “I am delighted to support Tops Forest School, it’s so lovely to see the children exploring our local environment.”
Belinda supported the children with one of their tasks of finding different types of leaves and discovering which tree they belonged too.
The children had lots of questions about the mayor’s shiny chains, which she was more than happy to answer whilst sharing hot chocolate.
Melanie Lockyer, Nursery Manager at Tops Gillingham said “I am so pleased the mayor accepted our invitation to join the children at Tops Forest School. The Tops Forest School ethos strongly believes it is important for children to learn about nature through nature and that children of all ages are able to explore the outdoors.
‘The children are given supervised access to magnifying glasses, saws, spades, buckets and more to help them explore. Children are encouraged to take risks, get messy, get wet, climb higher, and learn about their surroundings, and it is so lovely that Belinda could join us.”
